Rihanna Does Double Duty in Alaïa’s Shearling Coat and Sparkling Wrap for New York Fashion Week

Rihanna was thinking pink in a monochromatic look on Friday in New York City at The Daily Front Row Fashion Media Awards when she posed on the red carpet alongside Katie Grand and her stylist Jahleel Weaver, who were honored with the Magazine of the Year Award for Perfect.

The singer’s blush shearling coat from Alaïa’s summer-fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection was worn off the shoulder. Creative director Pieter Mulier designed the line using only a single merino yarn, yielding “impressive results,” WWD’s Miles Socha wrote in a review.

“They were also minimal, womanly, and very Alaïa, exalting feminine curves without resorting to cling. In fact, most of the clothes were built on circular shapes, from the looped fringe confections that opened the display to the sexy evening gowns that coiled over the bust and stomach like an expertly peeled orange.”

The singer wore the piece over a delicate dress and corset. The design featured layered sheer material draped over molded bra cups and a corseted bodice.

On the same night as The Daily Front Row’s event, Rihanna made an arrival to Alaïa’s New York Fashion Week show in a custom mesh off-the-shoulder wrap over a corset for the brand’s spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection held at the Guggenheim. WWD’s Booth Moore described the line as designer Pieter Mulier’s “take on American sportswear twisted in the Alaïa way, using zero zippers or buttons — a design constraint he put on himself following his last spectacular collection using just one kind of merino thread.”

It’s a busy week for Rihanna, who on Sept. 1 debuted a film lensed by Steven Klein for J’Adore’s new campaign shot in the Palace of Versailles. Rihanna become the face of the women’s fragrance from LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton-owned Parfums Christian Dior 25 years after the perfume first was released.

She succeeds Charlize Theron, who became the brand’s jewelry and skin care ambassador after 20 years in her J’Adore role.

“The house of Dior has always represented the highest level of elegance, craftsmanship and the regality of a woman,” Rihanna said in a statement. “It’s always an honor to be a part of the brand’s history, and to now represent J’Adore is an even greater responsibility because of how important this fragrance is to Dior.”
