Rick Moranis Spotted on a Rare Outing in New York City on Christmas Eve
The 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids' star, who left the spotlight in the '90s, was last photographed in the city on Nov. 15
Rick Moranis completed some last-minute holiday shopping.
The 71-year-old actor, who stepped away from the spotlight in the '90s, was seen out and about in New York City on Tuesday, Dec. 24, sporting a smile as he carried a grocery bag in each hand.
Moranis was bundled up amid the frigid Manhattan temperatures, in a green puffer jacket, brown pants and black shoes. He also wore a multicolored beanie, black sneakers and headphones.
The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids star notably stepped away from acting after his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky, died of breast cancer in 1991, to raise their two children, daughter Rachel and son Mitchell.

Moranis slowly left public life to focus on being a single father but he never officially retired from the business, he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2015.
“I took a break, which turned into a longer break,” he told THR at the time. “But I’m interested in anything that I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or television role, and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest.”
Tuesday marked the second rare sighting of Moranis in just over a month. On Nov. 15, the Ghostbusters actor was photographed taking a stroll in Manhattan.
For that daytime outing, Moranis was also wrapped up to stay warm, wearing a brown jacket and gloves, a green hat, olive-colored pants and brown shoes.

In February 2020, THR announced that Moranis was returning to film for a reboot of 1989's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, titled Shrunk. He was slated to play his former character, Wayne Szalinski, with Josh Gad as his now-grown son. Original director Joe Johnston was also returning.
“To say it is a dream come true to once again see #RickMoranis on the big screen is the understatement of the decade. But to say, I get an up seat view of him returning to play one of his most iconic roles is the understatement of the Century. Welcome back hero!” Gad, 43, wrote on X at the time.
In 2023, Gad shared an update about Shrunk, writing on X that COVID, scheduling problems and budgetary issues had possibly derailed the project. "If you want it, let your local @disney know," he added at the time.
