Fans of Jennifer Lopez were surprised to find out she and Ben Affleck officially tied the knot over the weekend in a small ceremony in Nevada, with official documents revealing JLo took her new husband's surname.

"Jennifer Lopez, but my name will be Jennifer Affleck, obviously," she tells him, explaining her maiden name will still be used as her stage name, but she'll take Ben's last name as her legal name.

"So what will your stationary say?" he asked, with the singer quickly responding, "Jennifer Affleck."

The pair then joked that the singer's nickname would be "J.Aff", with JLo joking, "It doesn't have quite the same ring to it!"

JLo and Ben Affleck were wed in Las Vegas, three months after the actor popped the question for the second time.

The pair obtained a marriage license in Clark County, Nevada and exchanged vows in a "super small" ceremony.

TMZ reported on Sunday that the license is in the couple's legal names, Benjamin Geza Affleck and Jennifer Lynn Lopez.

A source close to the pair confirmed to the gossip site, "They did, indeed, get hitched and the license is a signal they are now man and wife."

Another insider told ET Online, "Jen and Ben got married in Vegas. They have so much fun together and thought this would be a fun idea too. Ben is absolutely in love with Jen and feels loved by her too. They both feel so comfortable with each other and like they share history and know each other so well."

According to People, the wedding was only attended by Jennifer's twins Emme and Max, 14, and her mother.

"It was super, super small. [Jennifer's] mom and kids were there. They just wanted to be married so they got married," the source said.

On her website, JLo shared a statement saying, "They were right when they said, 'All you need is love.' We are so grateful to have that in abundance, a new wonderful family of five amazing children and a life that we have never had more reason to look forward to.

"Stick around long enough and maybe you'll find the best moment of your life in a drive through in Las Vegas at twelve thirty in the morning in the tunnel of love drive through, with your kids and the one you'll spend forever with."

She added, "Love is a great thing, maybe the best of things and worth waiting for. With love, Mrs Jennifer Lynn Affleck."

JLo has previously been married three times and was most recently engaged to baseball star Alex Rodriguez until February 2021 amid cheating rumours.

Ben was previously married to Jennifer Garner, with the pair splitting in 2018 and was more recently dating actress Ana de Armas until January 2021, breaking up over the phone after a year together.

"I feel so lucky and happy and proud to be with him. It's a beautiful love story that we got a second chance," JLo told People in February.

"I just feel very happy and lucky to be in a relationship that's happy and loving, and I want to do everything I can to protect that and keep it safe. It deserves that, it really does. We hold it sacred."

JLo shared the news of her engagement to Ben in a newsletter for her website, writing, "Did you ever imagine your biggest dream could come true? Saturday night while at my favorite place on earth (in the bubble bath), my beautiful love got on one knee and proposed."

She continued, "I was taken totally off guard and just looked in his eyes smiling and crying at the same time trying hard to get my head around the fact that after 20 years this was happening all over again, I was quite literally speechless and he said, 'is that a yes?' I said YES of course that's a YES."

"I was smiling so big and tears were coming down my face, feeling so incredibly happy and whole. It was nothing fancy at all, but it was the most romantic thing I could've ever imagined...just a quiet Saturday night at home, two people promising to always be there for each other. Two very lucky people. Who got a second chance at true love."

Speaking of her green engagement ring, she wrote, "Green has always been my lucky colour and now, for sure, it always will be."
