Reports Sunrise's Sam Armytage and David Koch to be replaced

Channel Seven is rumoured to already have a plan ready in the case Samantha Armytage or David 'Kochie' Koch step down from their presenting roles on Sunrise in the near future.

Weekend Sunrise hosts Matt Doran and Monique Write are believed to be Seven's ideal candidates for the jobs, according to reports from Woman's Day.

Monique, 47, is very much "loved by the big bosses", making her the perfect option to replace Sam, 44, when the time comes.

"[Monique has] been at Seven since 1996 and she knows her stuff," a source told the publication.

"She's also a mum, she's relatable and treats everyone with respect."

Matt, 37, is also very popular with viewers and network executives reportedly believe him to be the "heir apparent" after Kochie, 64, retires.

"It's no secret at the network that Matt is the heir apparent - he's a nice fit for all demographics and the female viewers love him," the source said.

"He has a terrific sense of humour, a really strong news sense and is incredibly compassionate when he's out reporting in the field."

Paul Burt, who recently filled in for weatherman Sam Mac, is also very popular, which could suggest he will also nab a permanent role on the show.

"They were inundated with viewers begging for him to stay on," the insider said.

The source hinted that Sam may be looking for a change at work and instead move towards game show hosting.

There was no word on current newsreader Natalie Barr or sports presenter Mark Baretta. Edwina Bartholomew is also staying on the show according to the source.

As Kochie nears retirement age, rumours have continued to swirl around who might replace him.

Sam also recently shard that while she is still under contract and "very happy" at Seven, she hadn't ruled out living a quiet life in the country.

"Oh yeah, I think down the track I could, easily," she said in an interview on the Kyle and Jackie O Show when asked about retiring to the Southern Highlands, where she spends her weekends with husband Richard Lavender.

Channel 7 has been contacted for comment.
