Don’t panic, dearest gentle reader, but it appears that Bridgerton season 4 is officially in the works.

Netflix celebrated the holidays by gifting fans their first look at the upcoming season of the hit Regency-era drama on Instagram yesterday, sharing a collection of behind-the-scenes snapshots taken at a recent table read that featured both new and familiar faces.

That includes this season’s upcoming romantic leads Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton) and Yerin Ha (Sophie Baek), who could be seen smiling and hugging in one image. The streamer captioned the post: “Rejoice for it is the season of joy and merriment!"

Thompson wasn’t the only Bridgerton present at the read, either. Another image showed Lady Violet Bridgerton herself, Ruth Gemmell, posing alongside her onscreen daughters Hannah Dodd (Francesca Sterling) and Florence Hunt (Hyacinth Bridgerton). While he was not at the reading, Jonathan Bailey has already confirmed that he will reprise his role as Anthony Bridgerton in season 4, too.

And, in another image, series newcomer Katie Leung, who famously starred as Cho Chang the Harry Potter series, could also be seen posing with one of her character’s daughters, played by Isabella Wei, at the reading. Leung will star as Lady Araminta Gun, a twice-widowed woman who is set on marrying off one of her two daughters — played by Wei and Michelle Mao — to the Bridgerton brother.

Adapted from author Julia Quinn’s third novel An Offer from a Gentleman, the Cinderella-inspired fourth season will see Thompson’s freewheeling bachelor Benedict fall head-over-heels for a mysterious Lady in Silver while attending his mother’s masquerade ball. He then sets out on a quest to find her, unknowing that it will lead him to meet Ha’s resourceful maid, Sophie.

Thompson gave a glimpse into his character’s fairy tale romance with Sophie while speaking with Tudum in September.

“What’s striking about season 4 is that it’s the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale — the romance of it — and the actual reality of the world,” he said at the time. “And both are true. You have to hold both of them — the romance and the reality — in your hand. In its best version, ‘true love’ happens in the middle of that.”

Season 4 of Bridgerton is following on the heels of its record-breaking third season, which depicted the relationship between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). The pair were also not in attendance at the reading.

A release date for season 4 of Bridgerton has not yet been announced. For now, take a look at photos of the table read above.
