Reese Witherspoon Says She's No Longer Friends With Famous Actress After Award Show Roast

Reese Witherspoon is opening up about an embarrassing moment that ended a friendship. In a new interview with People for her new comedy You're Cordially Invited with Will Ferrell, the actress revealed that she's still "haunted" by a cringey speech she once gave to one of her famous actress friends at an award show that apparently didn't land. 

“It literally haunts me,” Witherspoon said, adding, "So this friend of mine, who I didn't really know that well but she was a very serious, proper actress, she asked me to give her an award. But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her.” Revealing that she got the tone completely wrong, Witherspoon noted that the event was "British," "elegant," and "classy."

“I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?’” she continued. “I'm still embarrassed about it." And while Witherspoon didn't name names, she did note that she and the actress are "not friends anymore." 

"I'm not even kidding—we're not friends anymore” she said with a laugh. “I think she doesn't like me anymore. I thought it was so funny and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad. Yeah. Not even kidding, she doesn't talk to me anymore. Oh well."

It didn't take long for internet sleuths to uncover who they thought Witherspoon was referring to, predicting it was Kate Winslet. Witherspoon previously honored the Titanic star at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards back in November 2007, and during her roast, she playfully mocked Winslet's accent and told that crowd that she couldn't share any personal stories about the pair because "they're all too bawdy or tawdry or drunken to tell"–according to a transcript obtained from Just Jared. 

But Witherspoon did give a telling detail away, teasing "the time they contemplated laser hair removal and…or that time on the freeway when they got pulled over and..or that really funny thing that happened when they were both in their underwear."
