Red for Cartier, Not England: Inside the 2024 Style et Luxe at Goodwood Estate

LONDON — From London to Chichester, the country was painted red for England’s soccer match against Spain at the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship (which it ultimately lost).

However, at the 2024 Festival of Speed in the countryside, the red was for Cartier’s annual Style et Luxe competition, a signature shade for the Richemont-owned brand.

“It’s red for England,” she responded, pointing to her Emilia Wickstead dress and white shoes, a nod to the St. George’s Cross found on the England flag.

Inside the Cartier enclosure at the Goodwood Estate, which is the seat of Charles Gordon-Lennox, 11th Duke of Richmond, an awards ceremony and lunch was hosted by Laurent Feniou, the U.K. managing director of Cartier, with a host of judges that included actor Micheal Ward; editor in chief of Elle U.K., Kenya Hunt; David Gandy; industrial designer Marc Newson, and more.

The Style et Luxe is different from the auto rally competition that takes place at Goodwood; with the help of Cartier, it invites tastemakers from different industries.

There were eight categories, where each winner was handed a medal and the overall winner received a Cartier cup. The winning car for 2024 was Lord Bamford’s 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Corsica.

A notable past winner was the 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Volante that the new Prince and Princess of Wales drove away in after their wedding in 2011.
