Rebel Wilson’s epic rise to stardom

The Hollywood actress was born Melanie Elizabeth Bownds, and previously told Marie Claire that her mother enrolled her into acting classes due to her crippling shyness.

“I was so unusually shy, bordering on a social disorder,” she explained. “So my mum — one day she drives me to this community acting class. I was holding on to the car door and crying. She had to peel me off the car. She’s like, ‘I’ll pick you up in two hours’, and she left me.”

The star found a love for acting but also had top marks at school, so she ended up studying both Law and Arts at the University of NSW.

After she decided to head to Hollywood to try and make it big, her career quickly gained traction. She nabbed a comedic role in Bridesmaids which opened more doors for the Aussie actress. Once she landed the role of Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect, she continued to find success.
