Rebel Wilson reveals why she made her weight loss journey public
If you’re a fan of Rebel Wilson, you’d know that she lost an impressive 30kg during her ‘Year of Health’ in 2020 and regularly posted photos showing off her transformation process.
The 41-year-old has now revealed why she decided to make her weight loss journey public and share updates with her fans online.
Speaking with Jamila Rizvi on The Weekend Briefing on LiSTNR, Rebel apologised if she did “annoy some people” with her posts, but explained that social media helped hold her accountable.
“I feel really good within myself and I like to celebrate the journey,” she began.
“And also, why I did it publicly was for accountability as well, because it’s all good and well just having a little experiment and if you don’t tell people about it you could just easily fail, whereas if I tell the whole world on social media, then that's pretty good motivation.”

The Aussie actress, who just wrapped up filming on her upcoming Netflix film Senior Year, also added that her weight loss didn’t have an effect on her confidence as she’s always had great self-esteem.
“I think people are beautiful in all different sizes, and I would feel just as confident rocking my size 16 dress as I do now. I’m about a size 8 now,” she explained.
“I loved being bigger and it never stopped me from achieving anything in my life.”
Rebel went on to say that the ‘Year of Health’ was simply about becoming a healthier version of herself as she got older and started to deal with “fertility stuff”.
As well as cutting out 'emotional eating’ - something that she says she used as “a tool to numb emotions” - the Isn’t It Romantic star took a holistic approach and dealt with the emotional and mental reasons behind her unhealthy patterns of behaviour.
“So it wasn’t really about losing a set amount of weight,” she said. “It was just about being the healthiest version of me and I dedicated all of 2020 to doing that and I'm proud of myself.
“I shamelessly post too many photos of myself on Instagram now, but I’m like, it’s the first time in my life I’ve lost weight and haven’t yo-yo’d back and just put it back on, which is what has happened to me in the past.”
Rebel’s comments come just as she kicked off her week-long birthday celebrations alongside a number of famous friends on a private French Polynesian island.
The location, which is owned by the late Marlon Brando, was dubbed “Rebel Island” for the event.
The party host has shared a number of photos from the idyllic spot to Instagram, including a snap with her Pitch Perfect co-stars Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow.
“Could not love these ladies more! 10 years since we met and instantly harmonised,” she wrote in the caption.
