Rebecca Maddern wins fans over with Channel Seven return: 'Nailed it'

Rebecca Maddern has officially made her return to Channel Seven following her departure from Channel Nine late last year, where she appeared on The Footy Show, Weekend Today and Australian Ninja Warrior.

The TV presenter, who previously worked for Channel Seven from 2002 to 2016 on Seven Afternoon News and Sunrise as their Melbourne correspondent, is now the new weekend co-anchor for 7NEWS Melbourne alongside Mike Amor.

Rebecca first announced her exciting career move earlier this week with a post on Instagram, saying that she was “thrilled” to be returning.

“I walked through the door of Channel Seven when I was just 24 years old as a young cadet and now I return to read the weekend news,” she wrote.

“I couldn’t be happier to sit beside Mike, he’s one of the best journos in the country. He’s reported on every major news event across the world over the past 20 years.

“I’ve had an amazing time on The AFL Footy Show, Australian Ninja Warrior, the Australian Open Tennis, Cricket World Cup and of course Weekend Today. I’ve been very lucky and may the adventure continue.”

Shortly after Rebecca’s first show on Wednesday night, which was promoted by Channel Seven with a dramatic video titled ‘Rebecca Maddern Comes Home’, she took to social media to share a photo alongside the caption: “Well that was fun!”

The journalist also posted a snap on her Instagram Story showing herself in a light-coloured dress, pink jacket and heels standing alongside her new colleagues, Mike Amor and Sonia Marinelli.

“Just wanted to post to prove on my first night back at Seven - I dressed head to toe,” she wrote. “Most likely shorts and thongs tomorrow.”

A number of Rebecca’s Instagram followers rushed to the comments of her recent post to applaud her on her new gig.

“Great to see you back!!” Sunrise’s Mark Beretta wrote, followed by Celebrity MasterChef winner Nick Riewoldt with, “Go Bec!”.

“Loved it, Bec! Congrats on the new gig. You guys make a wonderful team,” one fan remarked, while another said, “Nailed it!”.

“Bec is the best! Yes, this is the news we need,” someone else commented.

“Breath of fresh air to 7NEWS,” a different user shared. “Congratulations, welcome back.”
