Rapper T.I. arrested in mistaken identity case in Atlanta

The rapper, real name Clifford Harris Jr., was booked into the Clayton County Jail due to a mix-up over another Clifford Harris.

Rapper T.I. was arrested but released Sunday night in Atlanta over a case of mistaken identity, Entertainment Weekly can confirm.

The rapper and record producer, real name Clifford Harris Jr., was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport due to a warrant for another Clifford Harris, wanted in Maryland for alleged violence against a woman, including stalking and possible possession of a gun.

T.I. was booked into the Clayton County Jail but released within two hours after arrest, his attorney Steve Sadow told TMZ, which was the first to report the news.

The Grammy-winning rapper last made headlines after a woman, identified as Jane Doe, filed a lawsuit against him and wife Tiny Harris, real name Tameka Cottle-Harris, earlier this year, alleging in the suit that they drugged and sexually assaulted her in a hotel room in 2005. It was re-filed under California's Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act, which extends the statute of limitations for such claims.

Los Angeles police previously launched an investigation into the allegations in May 2021, but the district attorney's office declined to file charges due to the statute of limitations.

Both T.I. and Tiny, a member of R&B girl group Xscape, denied the allegations against them. "This plaintiff has been threatening to file this lawsuit for THREE years. For THREE years, we have emphatically and categorically denied these allegations," they said in a statement. "We are innocent of these fake claims, we will not be shaken down, and we look forward to our day in court."

The rapper previously announced the release of his 12th and final studio album, Kill the King.
