“16 and Pregnant” star Autumn Crittendon's cause of death revealed

Crittendon starred in season 5 of the MTV reality show.

16 and Pregnant star Autumn Crittendon's cause of death has been confirmed three months after she died at age 27.

The manner of death is accident and the cause of death is fentanyl and para/meta-fluorofentanyl toxicity, a spokesperson for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in the Virginia Department of Health confirmed to EW.

An investigation into the death of Crittendon, who was also known by the name Autumn Oxley, was first opened on July 20 after police and fire responders were called to a home in the 700 block of Chinkapin Court in Sandston, Va., after a report of a medical emergency.

"Once on scene, officers and fire personnel located an adult female unresponsive within the residence," a statement provided to Entertainment Weekly from the Henrico County Police Department said at the time. "Members from Henrico Fire attempted life-saving measures however they were not effective. The adult female, Autumn Oxley, 27, of Henrico, was pronounced deceased at the scene."

Crittendon, who appeared on the MTV reality show in its fifth season, had three children.

After learning of her death, MTV’s Teen Mom franchise released a statement on X paying tribute to the star. “We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Autumn Crittendon,” it read. “Our hearts go out to her family and friends during this difficult time.”

Her mother-in-law, Tiffany Oxley, also shared a short tribute on Facebook, writing, "I miss you. God has gained another angel way too soon. I love you," according to PEOPLE. Crittendon's sister, Misty, also shared a sweet photo of the two as kids, alongside the hashtags "#JusticeforAutumn" and "#CrittendonStrong."

16 and Pregnant first began airing on MTV in 2009. The sixth and most recent season aired its last episode in April 2021. Crittendon's death came just months after another 16 and Pregnant alum, Sean Garinger, died in an ATV accident at the age of 20.
