Rachel McAdams Circling Sam Raimi’s Horror-Thriller ‘Send Help’
Rachel McAdams is in talks to star in Sam Raimi’s Send Help, the horror-thriller from 20th Century Studios, which he is producing and directing.
Sources tell us that these negotiations are in early stages, and nothing is definite at this point. The news follows Deadline’s exclusive earlier in July, which broke the news that Raimi had boarded the project not officially greenlit by the studio.

Billed as a two-hander horror-thriller set on an island, the story is somewhere between Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation Misery and Robert Zemeckis’ classic Castaway. Send Help is based on an original script by Baywatch scribes Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Zainab Azizi will also produce under the Raimi Productions banner, and the film is expected to nab a theatrical release.
Disney did not respond to requests for comment.
A preeminent multi-hyphenate, Raimi is known as an influential genre producer and filmmaker, directing pics like the Evil Dead franchise and Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire. His latest filmmaking credit was on Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Forthcoming as a producer, he’s involved in Netflix’s Don’t Move, due Oct. 25, and Locked, which just had its world premiere at TIFF last month, both of which are horror-thrillers.
The Oscar-nominated McAdams’ oeuvre spans over two decades and numerous genres: She is best known for her star-making portrayals in Mean Girls, The Notebook, About Time, Disobedience, Spotlight, Game Night and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. She previously collaborated with Raimi on Doctor Strange 2. She most recently appeared on FX’s Dave as herself.
