Rachael Ray Says Marrying Her Husband Was the "Smartest Thing She Ever Did"
Rachael Ray might be in Tuscany but she’s not alone! Her husband, John M. Cusimano, is often there behind the scenes, and sometimes even makes appearances as her occasional TV co-host. But who is he and how did the pair meet?
Who is Rachael Ray’s Husband?
Rachael is married to John M. Cusimano. A musician, John is a singer for the rock band, The Cringe.
"John is a musician,” Rachael said in a 2020 interview for The Rachael Ray Show website. “He wanted to go to Berklee College of Music and was accepted and he's a terrific musician and he plays 57 different instruments. But he went to law school because his parents told him cautiously that it's better to have a trade. He really is a master of keyboards, every stringed instrument, he's especially great with percussion."
John practiced his trade in his earlier days. "I used to practice in New York City as an entertainment lawyer, primarily in film,” John shared. "Then I met this one, and now I only have one client and her name is Rachael Ray. So I just work on our businesses all the time."
"Smartest thing I ever did was marry an entertainment lawyer—saved me a bundle,” Rachael revealed in the same interview. "Entertainment licensing is what John does."
They met at a birthday party.
Rachael and John met at a mutual friend’s birthday party in 2001.
"This person was a tall person, and she invited all of her ex-boyfriends and people she knew — and they were all tall," John recalled in an interview on The Rachael Ray Show website. "And as you can see, we're not all that tall. So I like to say we saw each other among a sea of knees."
"That's true," Rachael added. "And we crossed a crowded room and started talking and we have talked every day since the night we met."
They got married in 2005.
A few years after meeting, Rachael and John tied the knot in 2005 at Castello di Velona in Tuscany.
Rachael revealed to PEOPLE that John was “a big surprise” for her. “He came at a point in my life when I had decided, I’m not going to chase [marriage],” she shared. “I don’t think young men or women should feel pressured into marriage. You shouldn’t marry anyone, in my opinion, who you have to try hard for.”
They split their time between Italy and New York.
Now, nearly 20 years after getting hitched, Rachael and John enjoy a life in the countryside of Italy, with another home in Lake Luzerne, nestled among New York’s Adirondack Mountains.
