Queen Letizia of Spain returned to her power suiting ways for a royal engagement in Madrid on Thursday. The Spanish royal spent time with students at the Cortes de Cádiz school.

For the occasion, Queen Letizia leaned into a fiery red colorway, wearing a bold red pantsuit with coordinated trousers and double-breasted blazer. The blazer featured an elongated frame with long sleeves, side pockets and black buttons.

Other notable details on the blazer included the sharp lapels and an angular collar. Queen Letizia’s trousers featured a looser fit, but were still tapered to her frame. The Spanish royal paired the red suit with a pair of chunky black loafers with gold chain hardware detailing.

As for her glam and accessories, Queen Letizia took a minimalist approach. She wore one ring on her index finger and opted for a pair of dainty earrings. Her hair was styled in a straight look with a side part and her makeup featured bold brows, slightly smoky eyes and a neutral lip.

Queen Letizia has long kept power suits in her royal sartorial repertoire. The Spanish royal’s wardrobe features designers such as Mango, Bleis and more, with pantsuits crafted with bold colorways and intricate details.

Royal power suiting moments for women have a rich history that’s led the style to become a contemporary mainstay. Thanks to the likes of Princess Diana, who memorably styled a Catherine Walker suit with a Hackett waistcoat in 1988, royal women throughout the globe became more empowered to style suited moments for daytime engagements.

Now, the style is a wardrobe essential and ubiquitous piece of modern royal dressing. Kate Middleton was previously seen wearing suited looks by Burberry and Roland Mouret, and more royals like Queen Maxima of the Netherlands and Queen Mary of Denmark have followed suit with similar sartorial statements.
