Pritish Nandy Dies: Indian Producer, Filmmaker & Journalist Was 73
Pritish Nandy, the Indian poet, journalist, producer and filmmaker, died January 8. He was 73.
Born in 1951 in Bihar, he produced many films such as Bollywood Calling, Sur, Kaante, Chameli and Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, among others. Numerous figures in Indian entertainment have been paying tribute to the influential figure, whose death was confirmed to local news sites by his son, Kushan Nandy.

Nandy also produced comedy-drama Four More Shots Please!, which won an International Emmy nomination in 2020, and romantic anthology series Modern Love Mumbai for Prime Video.
He was also a prolific journalist, serving as the publishing director of The Times of India Group as well as editor of The Illustrated Weekly of India, The Independent, and Filmfare in the 1980s. He was also a recipient of India’s civilian honor, the Padma Shri, in 1977, as well as an International Humanitarian Award in 2012.

Many Bollywood stars paid their tribute online to Nandy, including Indian director Sudhir Mishra, actor Sanjay Dutt, and actor-director Anupam Kher.
Nandy’s daughters, Rangita Pritish-Nandy and Ishita Pritish-Nandy, and son Kushan have all had careers in filmmaking.
