Amazon Prime Day is coming up on June 21 and 22, and while there’s a lot we still don’t know about this year’s sales event, it’s safe to assume that we can look forward to plenty of big deals.

According to Amazon Australia Country Manager, Matt Furlong, Aussie shoppers saved millions of dollars in the Prime Day sales last year.

Everyday and big ticket items proved popular in 2020, with tech, home and beauty being the top categories. Here we take a look at some of last year’s biggest deals:

Most popular deals from Amazon Prime Day 2020

Many Aussies used the Prime Day sales to stock up on everyday items while they were at a good price.

Men’s BULLDOG Original Face Wash proved a popular choice, as did skincare products from WELEDA.

ASAKUKI Aromatherapy Essential Oils, Palmolive Foaming Hand Wash Soap and Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel were also among the top-selling items.

Laundry products from OMO, Comfort and Fab, also sold well, as did Coca-Cola Multipacks, Viva Paper Towels and jumbo bags of Starburst and Skittles.

In terms of bigger ticket items, Aussies saved on this Winix Hospital Grade Air Purifier which normally retails for $449 and Sony wireless noise cancelling headphones.

Robot vacuum cleaners from ECOVACS were snapped up too, with the Deebot N79T selling well. ECOVACS has just launched their new T9+ vacuum, so the older models will likely feature in this year’s sales.

Amazon products like the Echo Dot smart speaker with Alexa, and the waterproof, 8GB Kindle were also heavily discounted and are likely to be so again this year.

When will Prime Day 2021 be?

This year, Amazon Prime Day will be on June 21 and June 22 in Australia.

Amazon stays pretty tight-lipped about exactly when the event will take place, but we were expecting it to be in late June.

It’s usually held in October, but Covid pushed it back last year, and Amazon announced earlier this year that the 2021 event would be brought forward to Q2 which finishes at the end of June. We also expect a couple of weeks’ notice, hence we’re pretty confident it’ll be sometime in late June.

How you can shop the deals

The one catch with the sales is that to be able to shop, you need to be an Amazon Prime member, however, you can sign up for a one-month free trial that will take you through to the 2021 Prime Day sales.

A Prime membership costs $7 a month or $59 a year, and gives you access to Amazon’s streaming service Prime Video and free expedited delivery on eligible Amazon purchases.

It also means you can use Amazon Music, Prime Gaming and can read over a thousand ebooks on Prime Reading.

What is Prime Day?

It’s a once a year sales event that sees thousands of products discounted on Amazon Australia.

While it technically only runs for two days, the time difference between Australia and the US means that Aussies have access to 65 hours worth of sales, as deals are still live on Amazon US until 5pm our time on the third day.
