Popular Kmart summer item comes with warning from distressed shoppers: 'Please don't'

The $39 portable sun lounger was wildly popular in Kmart stores last year.

Kmart has brought back a popular $39 summer product, with shoppers being told to "run, not walk" to Kmart to snap it up. The portable sun lounger is the perfect accessory for the beach (or pool if you're so lucky) and its most important features? The fact that it comes with a detachable pillow and an opening so you can lay face down without squishing your face to the side.

The product was also stocked last year and was hugely popular, so it's no surprise Kmart has brought it back for another summer. Just think of all the benefits of it — you can be having much-needed tummy time as you doomscroll TikTok, you could plant a drink directly beneath you so you're always able to sip your summer smoothie (or margarita, no judgment), and it makes snacking more easily accessible too. Sure, it may look weird in practice on a crowded beach in Sydney or the Gold Coast, or wherever you reside, but I can guarantee you that stranger things have happened in Bondi.

One TikTok user, Nicole Gordon, uploaded a look into what life with the sun lounger looked like, with the video accumulating nearly one million views and hundreds of comments as she told fellow Kmart fans to "run, don't walk to Kmart". "I got a new chair!" she said, panning over her body at the beach while she lay face down in the pillow hole.

While many shoppers were ready to race to Kmart to snap up their own chair, others warned of the dangers of the Aussie sun, with devastating stories.

"As a 35-year-old Australian, who's had multiple skin cancers cut out, [including] one cancer cut out of her breast leaving a huge scar, PLEASE don't run to Kmart unless it's for sunscreen, you're worth more than a tan," one person warned.

"As a stage three melanoma patient I beg you to move into the shade. I was you, moved from Scotland to Sydney, and and am now suffering the consequences. Please protect your skin," another person said.

"I’d be very careful being in the hot Aussie sun! Please make sure you do your regular skin checks," someone else commented, with another using a classic Aussie phrase: "As long as that comes with some seriously strong sunscreen, slip, slop slap, don’t forget your hat"

The TikTok creator, Nicole, mentioned in the comments section that she's a "big advocate" for sunscreen.

If you're ready to slip, slop, slap, and use the chair in safer sun hours (not at midday people, for the love of God), some people waded into the comments section to have their say about the lounger.

"The head hole is uncomfortable I've found!" one person commented. "Not me thinking Kmart was offering massages," another said.

"One of the screws broke off on mine and I can’t find it," someone else complained, with Nicole saying, "I feel mine is getting a bit rusty already and I just got it."

"It’s the other direction I struggle with. I want one that covers my face and allows me to use my phone while I’m lying on my back," someone else lamented.
