The most popular baby names in Australia for 2018

Welcoming your children into the world is one of the most important milestones you’ll reach in your life.

However, once you’re over the giving birth hurdle, there’s the question: what do we name our new bub?

Well, if you’re needing inspiration, take a look at the most popular baby names in Australia for 2018, according to babycenter.com.au.

Or if you’re after for a more individual name, then perhaps this list will give you an idea of which names to stay clear of.

For girls, the name Ava has regained the top spot after three years, knocking Olivia off the podium, with that name slipping down to number four.

For boys, the top spot has remained the same as last year with Oliver standing strong, while Jack knocked Noah out of second place after four years of being unchanged.

United Kingdom top baby names

Meanwhile in the United Kingdom, there are some similar baby name entries to Aussies but many differences too.

For girls, the top name for 2018 is Olivia, but monikers in the top 10 for Aussies like Charlotte, Harper and Willow, were not popular with the British.

Instead the likes of Emily, Ella and Aria took some of the top spots in the UK list.

For boys, Muhammad came in at number one, which doesn’t appear on the Aussie top 10. Harry, George, Freddie and Arthur were also in the top 10 for the Brits, which weren’t so popular with us Aussies.

USA top baby names

All the way across the Pacific Ocean in the United States, there were some very different names in the top 10 for both boys and girls.

Sophia topped the list for girls names in the USA, with the names Isabella, Riley and Layla making an appearance in the top 10 which don’t appear on the Aussie or UK lists.

For boys, Jackson was crowned top dog. The names Liam, Aiden, Caden, Grayson, Lucas and Elijah appeared in the top 10 for the USA, which didn’t appear in either the Aussie or UK top names.
