Police Academy actor Marion Ramsey dead at 73

Marion Ramsey, best known for her role as good-natured, squeaky-voiced Officer Laverne Hooks in the Police Academy film franchise, has died aged 73.

The actor’s passing was announced by her representatives, Roger Paul Inc., according to Deadline.

A cause of death has yet to be revealed, however, it’s believed that Ramsey was unwell in recent days.

Born in Philadelphia, Ramsey’s career began in the theatre with performances in Hello, Dolly! and later Eubie!, the lauded biographical musical about jazz pianist Eubie Blake.

In 1984, she landed her biggest role to date as Officer Hooks in the hit comedy film Police Academy alongside Steve Guttenberg, Kim Cattrall and G. W. Bailey. She would go on to star in five sequels over the next five years.

Ramsey also lent her voice to various animated projects such as a 2006 episode of the TV series Robot Chicken as well as a recurring role on The Addams Family in 1992-93.

Ramsey is survived by her brother.
