Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, ‘New Girl’ and ‘Magnum P.I.’ Actor, Dead at 61

Actor Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, known for his roles in New Girl and Magnum P.I., has died at the age of 61.

The star passed away on the morning of Monday, Feb. 10, according to a Facebook post shared by his son, Manoah, and signed by his Peter's wife, children, and grandchildren.

"With a heavy heart, my family and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo passed away this morning at 3:16am," Manoah wrote. "My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here."

"We will continue to live with him in spirit, and as saddened as we are, he is without a doubt in Heaven with his brothers, sisters, parents, daughter, and Jesus, and no longer in pain," Manoah continued. "His strength, love, compassion, and kindness will forever be felt."

The post went on to say that the family is in the process of planning a "proper Celebration of Life," thanking fans for their thoughts, prayers, and "continued support through this tough and emotional time."

Manoah told TMZ that his father died in Phoenix, Arizona, from heart complications, calling Peter "a trailblazer for Polynesian actors in Hollywood."

Peter's acting career began in 1991 with a big screen role in the sports comedy film Necessary Roughness, according to Entertainment Weekly. He went on to appear in a number of other movies, including 12 Rounds with John Cena, the The Fast and the Furious, A Perfect Getaway, Batman & Robin, BASEketball, Charlie’s Angels, Austin Powers in Gold Member, Savage and The Scorpion King.

The late actor is perhaps best known for his long list of TV credits, however. In addition to New Girl and Magnum P.I., Peter guest-starred in such series as NCIS, Mob City, Ray Donovan, and black-ish. He also played Kaleo on Hawaii for 8 episodes and Koa on Young and the Restless for 7 episodes.
