“Outer Banks” has been renewed for Season 5 at Netflix, which will also be the show’s last.

The three co-creators said in the statement that they were inspired by to write the series in 2017 when they came across a photograph of a group of teenagers at dusk on a beach.

“At the time, seven years ago, it seemed impossible that we would really get to tell the whole five season story, but here we are, at the end of our fourth season, still chopping away,” they wrote. “The fourth season was our longest and hardest – but most rewarding – to produce. The season ends with a feature length episode, which we think is our best, most powerful episode. We hope you feel the same way.”

“Now, with a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting Season Four behind us, and are turning to Season Five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago,” they continued. “Season Five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you’ll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break.”

The cast for Season 4 of the popular YA series includes: Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Carlacia Grant, Drew Starkey, Austin North, Fiona Palomo, J. Anthony Crane, Pollyanna McIntosh, Brianna Brown, Rigo Sanchez, Mia Challism and Cullen Moss.

“Outer Banks” has proven to be a major hit for Netflix. Part one of Season 4 has been in the Netflix English language TV Top 10 chart for the past three weeks, with the show itself having spent 27 weeks total in the Top 10 since its original release in 2020.

Netflix has also begun to expand the world around the show with live events. The streamer recently hosted the second “Poguelandia” event in Los Angeles with 2500 fans in attendance. It featured performances by artists like GloRilla and Remi Wolf as well as merchandise, photo opps, and more. Netflix has also launched the mobile game “Netflix Stories: Outer Banks.”
