Yahoo Lifestyle Olivia Wilde borrows Bridget Jones’ granny pants to wear under her sheer lace dress
There's no denying that Bridget Jones is a cultural icon, but I would argue she is a fashion icon too. From mini skirts so short they're mistaken as being off sick to novelty Christmas jumpers that can bag you a boyfriend (kind of), though arguably the attire she is most associated with is granny pants. Bridget championed comfortable underwear at a time when the G-string reigned supreme – lest we forget the exposed thong trend of the '00s.
Over 20 years after the release of Bridget Jones's Diary, it seems the character, portrayed by Renée Zellweger, is still inspiring in the undergarment stakes. At least if Olivia Wilde's recent ensemble is anything to go by. Stepping out during New York Fashion Week to attend Michael Kors' spring summer 2025 runway show, the actress wore a black see-through lace dress from the designer with a pair of black high-waisted knickers clearly visible beneath the transparent fabric.
In the words of Daniel Cleaver, AKA Hugh Grant, Olivia's “absolutely enormous panties” stretched well above her belly button and were immediately reminiscent of the nude knickers Bridget wore for a date with her boss. They were the only underwear Olivia donned though, as she freed the nip by going braless in the risqué design.
She added black patent slingback heels to the look and carried a black leather bag, tucking the silver chain handle away to hold it in her hand as a clutch. A simple bangle adorned one wrist as well as a selection of rings scattered across her fingers. Black RayBan sunglasses were her only other accessory.
It's giving naked dressing, with a relatable twist. Uncomfortable knickers? We don't know her.
