Nicolas Cage's Longlegs is the scariest film of 2024 and has a 100% fresh rating
"Your life is not going to be the same."
Nicolas Cage's new movie Longlegs hasn't even had a full release just yet, but it's already been dubbed as the scariest film of 2024. The movie, which is set for release next month in Australia, has also earned itself a 100 per cent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, leaving horror fans eagerly awaiting the chance to see it on the big screen.
In the movie, Nicolas stars as Longlegs, a serial killer, who is being pursued by FBI agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe), who discovers a personal connection to the killer as she uncovers a series of occult clues that she must solve in order to end his terrifying killing spree. It's been compared to Silence of the Lambs, except much, much scarier.

Sharing some behind-the-scenes information, one fan wrote on X, "The first time Maika saw Nicolas Cage in full makeup as Longlegs, her mic that was taped to her shirt picked up her heart rate which had skyrocketed to around 150bpm while just sitting still and looking at him."
"Longlegs is a film that shouldn't exist," another added. "The absence of cheap gore and jumpscares makes way for something infinitely more shocking and sinister than anything we've seen in a long time. From the opening shot it sets a tone so evil it's impossible to shake."
"Saw Longlegs this morning and now I'm just supposed to... carry on with my day?" a third said. "It's like [writer and director] Osgood Perkins saw Silence of the Lambs and thought, 'Nah, not f***ed up enough for me'."
"#Longlegs is the textbook definition of spine-tingling & legitimately had me on the verge of tears in terror," someone else said. "This isn’t your dollar store jump scare fear - this that get under your skin & stays lurking fear. I instinctually blessed myself twice during act 3. Don’t see it alone."

'Your life is not going to be the same'
You'll notice in the trailer you don't actually see Nicolas, which was a choice by the filmmakers. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he shared, "It’s the equivalent of putting a warning label on a jar of nitroglycerin."
"The monster is a highly, highly dangerous substance. The way it’s moved, unveiled, deployed has to be treated very carefully."

He added, "Forget about the movie theatre blowing up; the whole city could blow up, nay the country, maybe even the world. [My character] is going to change your reality. Your doors of perception are going to open, and your life is not going to be the same."
