Netflix Dropped a Major Status Update on the 'Peaky Blinders' Movie

Looks like we're one step closer to getting back in step with the Peaky Blinders gang.

In early 2024, fans of Peaky Blinders were ecstatic to learn that the drama would continue on in the form of a spinoff movie for Netflix. With Cillian Murphy returning as leader Tommy Shelby, the studio continues to tease folks about what's down the line, with behind-the-scenes images from filming. And if that's not enough, new characters will be introduced into this gritty world of 20th-century Birmingham, England, including Barry Keoghan and Rebecca Ferguson in undisclosed roles.

Well, Netflix decided to drop a bombshell update about the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, thanks to a surprise post on X (formerly Twitter). Uploading a photo of Cillian and Barry dressed in costume, it was revealed that filming for the movie finished before the holiday season.

"THAT'S A WRAP," read the caption on December 19, 2024. "The Peaky Blinders film has completed production."

Upon seeing this exciting news about what's to come, Peaky Blinders fans understandably went wild with anticipation.

"Can. Not. Wait!" one person exclaimed in the comments. "Can’t wait to see the Shelby family back in action on the big screen. Bring on the grit, drama, and style. 🔥," another declared. "Omg! When is the expected release date?" a different follower added.

While Netflix hasn't yet delivered more information about a release date for the Peaky Blinders movie, there have been some key details that have been dropped in the years since the show ended after six seasons in 2022.

When creator Stephen Knight spoke to the Radio Times in March 2023 about the Peaky Blinders spinoff film, he shared it will be set during World War II — a significant time jump from the show's setting in the 1920s. What's more, when he spoke to Esquire U.K. the year prior in February 2022, he teased that characters introduced in the show's final season could play a role in the upcoming movie.

"In series six we're bringing in the new generation, and they are going to be part of what happens in the film," he said at the time. "I think it's finding those actors that you just watch and you think, there you go. There's the future."
