Neil Young gave fans the ultimate Christmas present.

On Wednesday, Dec. 25, the singer-songwriter, 79, shared rare video footage on Instagram of him performing "Silver & Gold," the title track from his eponymous 2000 album, which was written in 1981.

Young performed the track from his couch with an acoustic guitar. At the end of the video, the camera panned to the flames in his fireplace.

“Is that our first fireside session?" he asks in the clip.

"sending love to you ❄️🌲🐾🎶❤️," Young captioned the video.

Over the years, Young has rarely played the track live, with his most recent performance of it being from 2007.

After the song's release in 2000, the "Down by the River" artist opened up about the making of the song to KGSR Radio.

"I tried it several ways. And it was such a nice, it’s just such a song, you know. It just kind of lives with the guitar. It’s just there,” Young said.

He added: “I really recorded, I think, a total of 11 times with different people in all kinds of different configurations. And we got ’em all, none of them are worth listening to. But this one here finally just got back to the roots of it and just sat down with my guitar and played it and said, ‘That’s it.’ Because I love the song and I feel the song now and it means something to me now.”

On Monday, Dec. 25, Young appeared on The Mentors Radio podcast where he revealed his new album tentatively called Talkin to the Trees (per screen-captured footage from his website Neil Young Archives via Reddit) is on the way. He also said that he made it with his band the Chrome Hearts.

"I'm so happy to be making and I'm still lucky enough to have made this last record that I made," he said. "It's blown my mind."

Young continued: "I'm very, very, very, very grateful for the success of being able to be in there with Lou Adler producing and the Chrome Hearts playing and getting this music out of me which I never even knew was there until a couple of months ago when I wrote all the songs and recorded them all. That all happened just like that. So, you don't have a plan."

He also said he went two years without writing any music.

"The record will speak for itself," said Young.
