Neighbours star's surprising advice for new cast member Chrishell Stause: 'Jail vibes'

It was announced last month that reality TV icon and honorary Australian Chrishell Stause would be joining the cast of Neighbours in a guest role created especially for her. The Selling Sunset star and former Days of Our Lives actress, who married Melbourne-born musician G Flip last year, is set to play Yasmine ‘Yas’ Shields, a “glamorous and successful businesswoman in pursuit of an exciting new opportunity”.

Before Chrishell arrives Down Under to begin filming in July, a former star of the beloved Aussie soap opera has shared their thoughts on the casting decision and offered some advice for the American TV personality. Jordy Lucas, who played Summer Hoyland from 2010 to 2013 and reprised her role last year, pointed out that there’s a stark contrast between the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles and the “jail-like” ambience of the Neighbours studios in Nunawading, Melbourne.

“In the latest series of Selling Sunset, her boss Jason [Oppenheim] bought and renovated a new office for them and he spent big bucks making this place schmick, and it just makes me chuckle [thinking] what her face is going to look like when she walks into Nunawading,” Jordy remarked on her podcast That’s Showbiz Baby!.

“Just to give you a bit of an idea of the ambience of the building and the halls of the studio, they used to film a show called Prisoner in the studios, but then they also used to film within the halls of the studio. So the whole building has a bit of a jail vibe.”

Jordy went on to predict that Chrishell will “for sure” be getting her own hair and makeup artist, personal wardrobe, and standalone trailer, which she thinks would “ruffle some feathers” within the cast.

“I’m assuming she will have a trailer, which would also make me laugh because they’re going to have to make room in the car park for the trailer which is going to piss off [everyone],” she shared.

Key advice for Chrishell

In addition to where Chrishell can get the best coffee, do her shopping and buy dinner near the studio, Jordy said her biggest piece of advice would be to avoid having an ego on set.

“I think to get a true Neighbours experience you need to immerse yourself,” she shared. “It is really like a family and I think for her to have the best experience possible she needs to shed any ego that she may have and just pull her sleeves up and dive right in, and I think she'll have a great time.”

Jordy’s co-host Alexandria Funnell, who is the former social media producer for Neighbours, added that it’s important Chrishell gets lunch at exactly 12pm to avoid mixing “germs” with the rest of production.

“Everybody breaks for lunch at 12,” she explains. “So the rules are that extras aren't allowed to eat before cast and crew, which I always found immensely problematic. But that's like an old-school film and TV tradition.

“It’s just like a big buffet and everybody eats there. It doesn't matter if you're the most famous person, the executive producer or an extra, everybody just eats from the same trough like a bunch of pigs. So my advice would be to get there at 12 while it's still fresh, it's still hot, and you don't have to share utensils with the entirety of the cast and crew. That would be my hot tip.”
