Nate Bargatze To Star In Comedy ‘The Breadwinner’ For TriStar Pictures
EXCLUSIVE: TriStar Pictures has pre-emptively acquired comedy pitch The Breadwinner from stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze and Dan Lagana, with Bargatze attached to star. This will mark Bargatze’s first starring role in a feature film. He will also produce alongside Lagana. Jeremy Latcham is producing via Wonder Project.
The project is in early development, with Bargatze and Lagana currently writing the script. The comedy plot is being kept under wraps.

Bargatze, widely known for his clean and relatable comedy for all ages, is the No. 1-earning comedian in the world according to Pollstar and currently selling out shows on his global The Be Funny tour. His Netflix specials The Tennessee Kid and Greatest Average American premiered to rave reviews in 2019 and 2021, respectively, with the latter receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album.
His latest hourlong special on Prime Video, Nate Bargatze: Hello World, currently holds the record as Prime’s most-streamed original comedy special in its first 28 days of viewership.
Later this year, Bargatze will co-produce a holiday variety special with Lorne Michaels for CBS, and it was recently announced that Bargatze will return to Netflix with a two stand-up-special deal. The first of the two Netflix specials, Your Friend, Nate Bargatze, will premiere globally on December 24.
Additionally, the comedian will release a new book from Grand Central Publishing, Big Dumb Eyes: Stories From a Simpler Mind, in May 2025.
Lagana co-wrote and executive produced Rudy Mancuso’s semi-autobiographical film Musica, which premiered to acclaim on Amazon in April. Prior to that, he served as showrunner on American Vandal at Netflix. He also co-created and showran Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous for MTV, the series that launched the career of Bo Burnham.
Latcham is the producer of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Bad Times at the El Royale. He also serves as a senior adviser to the Wonder Project, where he is developing and producing a slate of films, with projects in the works at Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures. Latcham has an overall deal with Hasbro Entertainment, where he is developing a Dungeons & Dragons sequel, and has projects set up at Skydance and Lionsgate.
