Natasha Rothwell’s How to Die Alone Cancelled After One Season at Hulu
It’s one and done for How to Die Alone: Hulu has cancelled the Natasha Rothwell comedy after a single season, TVLine has confirmed.
In a statement to our sister site Variety, Rothwell said that she was “shocked, heartbroken and frankly, baffled” that Hulu and Onyx Collective — which produces series from creators of color and other underrepresented groups — decided not to move forward with Season 2.

“This show took me eight years to bring to life, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned in that time, it’s resilience,” Rothwell said. “I’m not giving up. My team and I are committed to finding How to Die Alone a new home because stories like this matter.”
How to Die Alone, which premiered in September, centered on a “a broke, fat, Black JFK airport employee who’s never been in love and forgotten how to dream,” according to the official logline. Rothwell created the series and starred as aforementioned JFK employee Melissa.
Rounding out the ensemble were Conrad Ricamora (How to Get Away With Murder) as Rory, Jocko Sims (New Amsterdam) as Alex and KeiLyn Durrel Jones (The Other Two) as Terrance. The first four episodes dropped Sept. 13, followed by two-episode drops on Sept. 20 and 27, for a total of eight episodes; TVLine gave Season 1 a “C+.”
Rothwell, who created How to Die Alone, is also known for her roles as Kelli on Insecure and Belinda on The White Lotus — a role she is set to reprise in the upcoming Season 3 (premiering Sunday, Feb. 16 on HBO).
