Breastfeeding mum forced to stand on train hits out

A mum’s post about travelling on a train with a baby has gone viral because of the shock situation she found herself in when no one offered her a seat — despite the fact she was breastfeeding.

Kate Hitchens couldn’t believe that she was forced to stand for 30 minutes with her sex-month-old son, when they boarded a train from London during rush hour this week.

Out of sheer frustration, the 32-year-old took to the baby_led_weanning_club’s Instagram page to vent her disappointment, sharing a shocking image of herself standing while others sat behind her.

“What has the world come to that a mother has to stand up on a moving train breastfeeding a wriggling and writhing 6 month old, 9kg baby?!” she wrote.

“The point here isn’t just that I found it difficult because I was nursing (although that was bloody difficult!)” she continued. “But that not one person offered a mother carrying a small child a seat for around half an hour, or 3 stops!”

Her post — that explained she could have asked for a seat, but “shouldn’t have to” — resonated with the mum community, as hundreds jumped to defend her.

The blogger, who is also mum to three-year-old Oliver, concluded by urging people to “be kinder” if they saw others struggling.

“Next time you see someone with a child on a train — if you’re able bodied and fit and healthy please offer your seat to them,” she said.

Amen to that.
