Model's 'reckless' photo shoot on cliffside sparks outrage

A Victoria’s Secret model’s back-bending Instagram stunt has left caused a stir among her followers, many of whom labelled the snap ‘reckless’.

Swedish model Kelly Gale posted a dramatic Instagram photo of herself wearing a red sports bra and leggings, doing a backbend — on what looked to be the very edge of a desert clifftop.

“Casual stretching on the edge,” she captioned the image, posted for her 1.4M followers.

There were many people that thought the shot, which has more than 25,000 likes, was stunning and “amazing,” with plenty of applause emojis being posted.

But others warned that the model, balancing close to the edge, was being careless, and setting a bad example.

“Be careful, people fall from there,” one person wrote.

Another shared that a family member had fallen to their death in a similar situation.

“This is not an innocuous stunt,” the comment said.

“My brother fell 500 to his death from being near the edge of a cliff. It took over a week to find his body. Complete agony. Please, don’t do things like this for the ‘gram.”

A third person wrote, “Totally reckless, foolish, irresponsible, and a poor example of others.”

It’s not the first time either, with Instagram playing host to death-defying theatrics favoured by travel bloggers and influencers, many of whom are often criticised for endangering their lives for the sake of a photo.

In 2019, an Instagram travel couple was forced to defend a risky photo shared online, after it was labelled ‘dangerous’ and ‘idiotic’.

London couple Jean and Camille, originally from Belgium, have amassed 366k Instagram followers by sharing artsy and creative photos from their world travels.

But an image the pair posted in May last year, featuring them both gripping onto the side of a blue train during a trip to Sri Lanka, and leaning out over a huge drop above a forest for a kiss, didn’t sit well with many of their fans.

The image was called “utterly fake, a badly composited Photoshop” and critics claimed the couple was setting a poor example.

Camille and Jean responded to the backlash.

“It’s true that it looks as if sometimes we are doing dangerous stuff walking on high walls, climbing on slippery rocks or hanging out of trains, but we’re always completely in control of the situation and appearances are not reality,” the pair wrote.

Only months earlier, another travel couple was labelled ‘moronic’ and ‘dangerous’, after posting a perilous photo in an infinity pool.
