Instagram influencer slammed after contracting virus on holiday

A Instagram fashion influencer who tested positive for coronavirus has been hit with backlash online after she was accused of spending the US summer season socialising in the Hamptons.

New York City based Danielle Bernstein shared news of her diagnosis on Saturday with her 2.5 million followers on Instagram, describing her symptoms as similar to the flu.

“I basically feel like I have the flu, my body is extremely achy and I still can’t taste or smell. But it’s not getting worse,” the founder of fashion website WeWoreWhat wrote.

Bernstein didn’t share details of when she tested positive for the virus leaving followers to speculate she contracted the virus during a recent holiday to the Hamptons, where she was accused of sharing videos on social media of herself ignoring social distancing as she mingled with friends, visited restaurants and attended parties.

“Danielle Bernstein caught coronavirus after partying all summer in the Hamptons and constantly flying to and from NYC? Shocker,” one person sarcastically wrote on Twitter.

“Not Danielle Bernstein getting covid LMAO... girl, we’ve all seen ur Instagram stories and absolutely nobody is surprised,” another user shared.

“WeWoreWhat partied all summer mask-less in the Hamptons and now has COVID, she’s just so stupid,” a person wrote.

The author was also accused of being tone deaf as she posed in different outfits in a series of Instagram stories documenting her stay at home as she recovers from the virus.

“Is Danielle Bernstein seriously taking pictures in different outfits on her couch while COVID-19 positive... what in the world am I watching?” one Twitter user asked.

“Danielle Bernstein aka WeWoreWhat, not only caught COVID after reckless partying all summer in the Hamptons (then brought it back to NYC) but is now posting COVID SELFIES on Instagram! This is so disrespectful to the 190K people who have died. So inappropriate. READ THE ROOM,” another user wrote.

Fashion influencer defends herself on Instagram

Bernstein defended herself on social media, stating she has and will continue to follow recommendations regarding social distancing and self-isolating.

“Small groups, dining out, all of it is currently allowed. Guidelines are there to help us, but they are clearly not bullet proof.

“Of course I could have been more careful and still got it… the virus is still very much here and I will be taking it even more seriously going forward,” Bernstein wrote.
