Miles Teller Was Rejected by Keleigh Teller "Three Times in One Night" Before First Date

Miles and Keleigh Teller have been happily married for five years, but their love story wasn't always smooth sailing. Before the couple began their relationship—and the rest of their lives together—Keleigh wasn't initially interested in Miles, requiring him to be persistent before he could get her to agree going out with him.

"When I first met her, she turned me down like three times in one night,” Miles told E! News at The Gorge premiere on February 12. “I would say the fact I kept coming back and trying to swoon her, I'll give myself a pat on the back for that.”

The couple ultimately struck up a connection at a 2013 Grammy after-party, but that connection had a chance of not happening. “I got lucky the valet line was very long,” the Top Gun: Maverick actor said. “She was leaving and I had no idea how to contact her or anything. Now look at us, 12 years later," he added, noting that they "just clicked."

Miles and Keleigh's love story has been smooth sailing ever since. The actor proposed while they were on safari vacation in Africa; he led her to a tree with a note that read "May 11th, 2013-August 20th, 2017." After getting down on one knee, he told her, "This was the first day that I asked you to be my girlfriend, and today was the last day you woke up as my girlfriend," before asking her to marry him.

Keleigh later described the proposal as "perfect." She told People later that year, "He really thought about every detail and was so nervous! I'll never get the image out of my head of him down on one knee with a tear in his eye." The rest, as they say, is history—the couple married in Hawaii in 2019, and have been happy ever since.
