“Melrose Place ”Cast Tease Upcoming Revival Series: ‘Everyone Has Agreed to Do It’
"We can’t think of anything better than to come back together and tell a new story soon," Laura Leighton shared at 90s Con Florida
The cast of Melrose Place reunited onstage for the first time in years and teased their reunion is just a glimpse of what's to come.
Heather Locklear, Josie Bissett, Brooke Langton, Laura Leighton, Grant Show and Daphne Zuniga appeared together on a panel at 90s Con Florida on Saturday, Sept. 14. While reflecting on the sudsy primetime drama, they discussed the Melrose Place revival series in development.
Zuniga, 61, explained where the revival currently stands.
"Everyone has agreed to do it. Laura and I worked on this for a little bit now," she said. "It is in talks. Business affairs and lawyers and all those types are talking about it, and they do want to do it."
She says they're waiting on the talks to go through.

Leighton, 56, added there were many "moving parts and pieces" involved in getting the new show off the ground. "The stars need to align, but we want it as much as the fans want it," she said.
Melrose Place aired for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999. Created by Darren Star, the popular series was a spinoff of Beverly Hills, 90210 and followed a group of young adults living in a drama-fueled apartment complex in West Hollywood, Calif. The show was so popular at one point that the cast needed to be escorted in and out of a crowded appearance at a Hard Rock Café in Los Angeles, Leighton told PEOPLE in July.
Leighton hinted at 90s Con Florida that the revival would revisit Melrose Place's original characters.
"The idea is what happens to these people 30 years later," she explained. "There’s all these fan stories, all these great conspiracies and those are just wonderfully creative ideas, an example of everybody's’ interest in where they would be. We were such an easy group of people. We loved each other then. We can’t think of anything better than to come back together and tell a new story soon."
Zuniga agreed there were endless storytelling possibilities.
"These characters are so rich, and there was so much going on," she said. "I don’t think there’s anyone who isn't curious. What the hell would Jo’s baby be doing now? What would Jo’s 26-year-old baby be doing with Amanda right now? These are rich characters that any writer would love to dig into."
During the COVID-19 lockdown in April 2020, many of the show's stars reunited for a virtual which helped support The Actors Fund.
"What I miss most is working with the group of people and the crew that becomes the family," Leighton said at the time. "And that was, it was really hard to go from having that family for a number of years to all of a sudden, not on a daily basis. And I think it’s sort of why we’ve all kind of remained in touch even, you know, through long periods of everybody’s lives go different ways. But, circling back to that time, I have always, I just have maintained that fond feeling of this group as a family."
Meanwhile, Leighton, Zuniga and Courtney Thorne-Smith teamed up in July to launch the Melrose Place rewatch podcast, Still the Place, produced by iHeartPodcasts. Each week, the actresses reflect on episodes of the hit primetime drama, sharing behind-the-scenes stories with special guests that include the original cast and crew.
Leighton told PEOPLE in July that revisiting Melrose Place with her former costars has been a welcome experience.
“We have the fun of having a show in the '90s — which was such an iconic decade, anyway — and so we're watching it, talking about it and talking about how much hairspray there was and the outfits,” the actress mused.

90s Con Florida is occurring through Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.
