Melissa Etheridge Claims They’re ‘Still Finding Kids’ of Late David Crosby

Melissa Etheridge, known for hit songs like "I'm the Only One" and "I Want to Be in Love," shared some surprising information about the late David Crosby of Crosby, Stills & Nash while opening up about her life recently.

The singer spoke with People in connection with her new docuseries, Melissa Etheridge: I’m Not Broken, and she shared how her friend Crosby was the sperm donor for two of her children, Bailey Jean and Beckett—and many other families.

He reportedly donated a lot of sperm after getting help having his son, Django, with wife Jan Dance, with Etheridge saying, "They appreciated that. They wanted to pay it forward."

As a result, there appear to be quite a few of Crosby's biological children out in the world: "We're still finding kids from David Crosby out in the world. My daughter's like, 'I have another half-sister.'"

Talking about how the situation came about as she and her ex, Julie Cypher, decided to have kids, Etheridge said, "The situation was special with my partner at the time because she had been adopted and she wanted her children to know who their biological father was. So we weren't going to go to a sperm bank."

As for her perspective, Etheridge explained, "To me, I didn't want someone who wanted to be a father... I didn't want all of a sudden my children to have...'Oh, there's dad.' And who am I? That sort of thing."

It seemed to work out well, with Etheridge saying, "My kids call him bio dad, so he's the biological father, but they didn't need a relationship with him."

Crosby died in January 2023, and Etheridge mourned the loss by paying tribute on social media, writing, "I am grieving the loss of my friend, and Bailey’s and Beckett’s biological father, David. He gave me the gift of family. I will forever be grateful to him, Django, and Jan."

"His music and legacy will inspire many generations to come. A true treasure," she concluded the touching message.

Along with Bailey Jean and Beckett, Etheridge is mother to twins, Johnnie Rose and Miller Steven, with her former partner, Tammy Lynn Michaels. As for Crosby, he also had an older son named James when he was 21.
