Melanie Lynskey has nothing but love and respect for her husband Jason Ritter!

While exclusively speaking to PEOPLE at the Australians in Film Heath Ledger Scholarship ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 22, the Yellowjackets star, 47, admitted that balancing work and family has "been tricky" but expressed her gratitude for Ritter — and the fact that his show Matlock is filmed in Los Angeles.

"It's so wonderful that his job is in Los Angeles so our daughter has someone consistent to be home with her," Lysnkey shared. "We're very fortunate to both be working. It's a really difficult time in our industry, so many of our friends are not working. So I think we're really lucky to be in the position that we're in."

She also noted how she and Ritter were "very lucky" to have a "great nanny" in both Los Angeles and Canada where they both work.

"We're able to have help, which is like a huge, huge privilege. And so we definitely have a support team," she said, before adding, "And then I have a great husband who really is, like a true feminist. He does so much."

When it comes to their careers, Lynskey said "there's always going to be some kind of sacrifice" because of the responsibilities that come with sharing their daughter.

"We try to make it so that one of us is always going to be at home with her, because now she's at school and she can't travel," she explained. "It means you can't take every job that comes, which, you know, sometimes there are tough decisions to be made, but we do the best we can."

Before her conversation with the PEOPLE, Lynskey celebrated Matlock being renewed for a second season and gave Ritter props for his role as Julian in the new legal drama.

"So proud of my husband!" she wrote on X. "This show is SO GOOD, Jason is amazing on it, and Kathy Bates continues to be the pinnacle of greatness and everything I hope to be as an actor. Skye P Marshall is a superstar."

Lynskey quipped, "I would watch this even if it wasn’t my marital obligation."
