Meghan Markle’s $118 jacket is perfect for autumn

Meghan Markle’s name is on everyone’s lips once again, and while the damning accusations that came out of her tell-all with Oprah have generated the most talk, the duchess’s flawless appearance couldn’t help but remind us of why she’s such a style icon.

Dressed in a $6,486 silk Giorgio Armarni midi dress with black Aquazzura pumps and plenty of smokey dark eye makeup, she was the picture of polished perfection with a price tag to match.

However, just like her sister-in-law Kate, Meghan is known for wearing both high end and high street pieces, which we saw when she donned a much cheaper outfit while showing Oprah around the “chick inn” for rescued battery hens that she and Prince Harry have set up for Archie.

In the segment filmed the day after her sit down, Meghan is seen wearing this dark moss J. Crew jacket which is currently on sale for $118 - or $115 if you’re after the navy blue version.

She teamed it with jeans, a white button down top and a pair of classic green Hunter gumboots, a brand we’ve seen her wear before, as she explained how the couple hope to live "authentically" and get "back to basics" in this new chapter of their lives which will see them welcome a daughter in the next few months.

Meghan’s regularly been seen in J. Crew pieces including a denim shirt dress she wore to a Serena Williams tennis match in 2019, and a $500 navy tipped coat that sold out minutes after she was photographed meeting the public in Birmingham in it the year before.

More recently, she was seen wrapped up in this $576 J. Crew chateau parka with a faux-fur trim while out with Harry in Beverly Hills in December.

Her love for the label prompted us to take a look at some of the other more affordable brands the duchess regularly wears.

High street brands Meghan Markle loves

Club Monaco

Another staple brand in Meghan’s wardrobe is Canadian label Club Monaco.

She wore their blue and white 100% silk Dremah dress when she took baby Archie to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu on her 2019 Tour of South Africa, and there’s still a waitlist for it a year and a half later.

Meghan also turned heads in the brand’s $329 Shoanah dress which she wore to a society wedding and a black A-line design that the label unfortunately no longer stocks while at South Melbourne beach on her Australian tour.

Mother Denim

Meghan keeps going back to Mother Denim for her jeans after she was first seen wearing these $347 Looker Ankle Fray jeans that immediately sold out after she wore them to the Invictus Games when she and Harry were still a new item.

She’s since been seen out in $320 The Looker skinny jeans, $363 Runaway bootcut jeans and $378 Swooner Ankle Slice jeans.

Other denim

Another denim label that’s enjoyed lots of success thanks to the ‘Meghan Markle effect’ is Outland Denim, who had a waitlist so long for the Harriet jeans that Meghan wore while in Dubbo on her Australian tour, that they hired 46 more seamstresses.

Meghan has also favoured these $216 Emma Power Legging Skinny Jeans from DL1961 in the past, as well as these $333 Dina Black skinny jeans by Welsh company Hiut Denim.

Sneakers

When she isn’t in a pair of her trusty Aquazzura pumps, Meghan turns to environmentally friendly sneakers for a more comfortable look, whether that be these $200 Veja V-10 sneakers made with wild rubber sustainably sourced from the Amazon, or these $150 Adidas Stan Smith sneakers that are fashioned out of vegan leather.
