If you aspire to Duchess-levels of glamorous chicken keeping, you need this $26 accessory for your coop. In the final episode of With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex’s new Netflix show, she takes viewers on a charming chicken meet-and-greet. Fabulous in its own right, the coop is home to the now-famous Archie’s Chick Inn, which houses the family's flock of rescue chickens. Meghan and her kids feed their chickens a mix of dried pellets and fresh kitchen scraps, which she says makes their yolks extra golden. (So golden, in fact, that later in the episode, the legendary restaurateur and chef Alice Waters compliments them.) But it wasn't the chickens' diets that caught me eye: It was their dinnerware. While scattering food for the chickens, Meghan shares an arguably the chicest way to feed chickens: a "chick-nic" table.
Chick-Nic Table
As someone who is always on the lookout for stylish chicken coops, I paused the show immediately and hopped on Google to find out if these tables were widely available or if the Duchess had them commissioned for her chickens. You’ll be relieved to know—as I was—that chick-nic tables are readily available to help you make your pretty poultry dreams come true.
Chock-full of chicken-y charm, these mini picnic tables come in a variety of colors to match your coop’s color scheme. Most models on the market either feature one main feeding trough or are divided into two sections to separate dried feed and fresh food. (Meghan’s chick-nic table has just one large trough, which she uses for fresh kitchen scraps; she also freezes vegetable scraps into ice blocks so the chickens have something to peck at throughout the day.) The tightly woven mesh bottom of this particular model keeps food dry and aerated without letting any fall through. Plus, it’s easy to clean. Now, if only I knew who made Meghan’s adorable Chick Inn sign, I’d be one step closer to achieving my glamorous chicken-lady dreams!
