Meghan Markle cradles baby bump and colour clashes on royal visit

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have stepped out for their first joint engagement of 2019.

The pair were in the town of Birkenhead, near Liverpool, where pregnant Meghan, 37, stood out in a custom-red $1,800 coat by Canadian label Sentaler, which she also owns in camel.

She colour-clashed it with a $54 purple thigh-high slit midi dress by Aritzia’s Babaton collection and $521 red Stuart Weitzman heels.

Meghan, who usually sticks to a neutral palette when it comes to her outfits, completed her look with her $3,029 brown Gabriela Hearst ‘Nina’ bag and simple stud earrings by Pippa Small.

Their first stop of the day was Hamilton Square to view a new sculpture erected in November to mark the 100th anniversary of war poet Wilfred Owen’s death.

Meghan’s red and purple ensemble appeared to show support for Tomorrow’s Women Wirral’s logo – an organisation she and Harry visited during their time in the city.

The project supports women in vulnerable circumstances and helps them make positive lifestyle choices and changes.

Initially established in 2011 to support women upon their release from prison, Tomorrow’s Women Wirral has since expanded and now offers an extensive range of training courses and workshops for more than 6,000 local women, including support groups around mental health issues, domestic abuse, and addiction.

Before that, Meghan and Harry travelled to ‘Number 7,’ a ‘Feeding Birkenhead’ citizens supermarket and community cafe, which helps less fortunate families.

Feeding Birkenhead is a coalition of churches, food banks, community groups, and other organisations working together to eliminate hunger in Birkenhead. The supermarket enables local families to buy their weekly shopping at a discounted price, and provides advice and advocacy on benefits, looking for work, debt, budgeting, and cooking.

The couple’s final stop was the Hive Wirral Youth Zone. Created by the charity OnSide Youth Zones, which is developing 21st century youth facilities across the UK, the Hive provides a safe environment where young people can come and enjoy themselves, building key skills and raising their aspirations and confidence.

The Duke and Duchess met young members as they took part in a number of activities and workshops throughout the centre, before unveiling a plaque to mark the visit.
