Meghan Markle's bold twinning moment with Princess Diana
In the midst of winter in the United Kingdom, Meghan Markle decided to brighten things up with a bold outfit choice for a recent public appearance with her husband Prince Harry.
The 37-year-old stepped out in Birkenhead, near Liverpool, wearing a red $1,800 coat by Canadian label Sentaler, a colour-clashing $54 purple midi dress by Aritzia’s Babaton collection and $521 red Stuart Weitzman heels.
The Duchess of Sussex’s colour combination was actually a favourite of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
Diana first wore the red and purple combination in an evening gown on a trip to Thailand in 1988 at a dinner event in Bangkok – the dress was designed by Catherine Walker.
The following year, in 1989, the Princess of Wales wore the same colour combination in suit form, by the same designer, on a trip to Hong Kong.
Three years later, Diana was pictured wearing the same Catherine Walker suit on a visit to the Taj Mahal whilst on a royal tour in India.
Despite Prince Charles being on the trip, the visit to the mausoleum was a solo one.
Diana was pictured in front of the landmark in the bold outfit – the photograph became iconic as it gained worldwide traction, showing signs of difficulties in the royal marriage.
Ten months after the photograph was taken, it was announced the Prince and Princess of Wales were separating and five years later in 1997, Diana tragically passed away.
