Megan Thee Stallion Explained Why She Lied to Gayle King
She opened up about that 'CBS Mornings' interview in her new documentary, 'Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words.'
Back in April 2022, Megan Thee Stallion (real name Megan Jovon Ruth Pete) sat down with Gayle King on CBS Mornings to discuss her involvement in a 2020 shooting with rapper Tory Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson). During a court appearance, Lanez cited the interview and shared that Megan had issued "false statements." In her new Prime Video documentary, Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, Megan revealed that during that initial interview, when King brought up her sex life with Lanez, she wasn't truthful because she saw the line of questioning as "irrelevant" to the rest of the interview.
"Yes, bitch. I lied to Gayle King, bitch. First of all, I ain't know that bitch was even finna ask me about that shit. I thought we was gonna talk about this shooting," Megan said. "Why is you asking me about fucking Tory? That's not what this is about. Even if I was…I fucked that n---a like once, maybe twice on a drunk night. You kept catching me out of my fucking mind."
During the interview, King asked Megan just how deep her relationship with Lanez was.
"What was the nature of your relationship with Tory Lanez, because he has led people to believe that it was a sexual relationship," Gayle said. "That you two were dating? What was the nature?"
Megan responded, saying, that they were "not dating" but were just "really close" friends who "hung out, like, every day."
"Did you have an intimate relationship with him," Gayle asked.
Megan answered, "Like sexual? Um, I didn't have a sexual relationship with Tory."
Even though she told King that they didn't have a sexual relationship, during her time in court, Megan did say that she and Lanez had a "brief sexual relationship," according to Vulture.
Speaking to Women's Health in April 2024, Megan clarified her statement, saying that she felt like she was being dehumanized throughout the ordeal.
"A lot of people didn't treat me like I was human for a long time," she told the publication. "I feel like everybody was always used to me being the fun and happy party girl. I watched people build me up, tear me down, and be confused about their expectations of me."
King addressed the situation on Instagram after the premiere of Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, writing, "Hey, I'm just sitting here minding my own business. People are reaching out to me, saying, 'Hey Gayle, Megan Thee Stallion just called you a bitch.' I know you’re expecting me to…maybe you’re thinking I have something negative to say. I do not. I have nothing but great, great love and respect for Megan Thee Stallion."
In December 2022, Lanez was found guilty on three felony counts: discharging a firearm with gross negligence, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He pled not guilty to all three charges and was later sentenced to 10 years in prison, though he is appealing the decision.
