Megan Thee Stallion Begs for Help During 2024 VMAs Stunt: ‘Stop the Music'

Megan Thee Stallion tried her best to “hold it down” for Britney Spears while recreating an iconic moment in MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) history, but ultimately, she needed to shed the unexpected guest she had invited to join her at the show.

During the ceremony held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y., on Wednesday, Sept. 11, the 29-year-old performer was well into her hosting duties at the 2024 MTV VMAs when the camera panned over to her latest outfit for the evening. Those familiar with the awards show’s history quickly noticed that her green bra top and colorful short shorts were reminiscent of the outfit Spears wore while performing her song “I’m a Slave 4 U” onstage at the VMAs in 2001.

Like Spears did 23 years ago, Megan Thee Stallion also held a live yellow python that wrapped around her arms as she stood near the stage. While the python was part of Spears’ act all those years ago, the “Savage” rapper looked a bit terrified by the recreation she found herself participating in.

“OK! OK! Stop the music, stop the music,” the “HISS” rapper said after posing with the python for a few seconds. “I’m just playing. Come get this snake. I don’t know this snake, this snake don’t know me,” she urged as someone rushed over to help remove it. She let out a scream as the reptile was unwrapped from around her body and taken away.

“I tried to hold it down for Britney,” the three-time Grammy Award winner told the audience before moving on to the next portion of the evening’s festivities.

Fans who commented on video clips of the moment online assured Megan Thee Stallion that their reaction would have been identical.

“Absolutely my reaction 🤣🤣,” one person laughed on TikTok as another said it was a “valid response.”

“That scream was so real! 😭😂,” one TikToker wrote.

“She’s so real for this 🥵😩 you can never say Megan don’t TRY,” another TikToker declared.

“Same girl same 😅😂,” one person commented as another said it was “such a valid reaction i FEAR snakes to the core.”

The moment marked one of many tributes to VMAs history that this year’s host and other artists brought to the stage. In addition to creating new memorable moments for the first-time winners, the ceremony’s presenters also reminded fans of historic performances throughout the evening, some of which were nominated in the VMAs Most Iconic Performance category.
