With Mel Gibson’s new thriller Flight Risk hitting screens, many are reminded he still has an active – and very successful – career in Hollywood.
Gibson also has an active family life. Although his turbulent relationship with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva landed him in hot water in 2010, he’s seemingly turned his life around and has been dating current girlfriend Rosalind Ross since 2014. They have one child together, in addition to Gibson’s children from previous relationships.
“He says having kids is making him stay young,” a source told People, before the birth of Gibson’s youngest child, in late 2016. “He loves being a dad.”

How many children does Mel Gibson have?
Mel Gibson has a total of nine children: seven sons and two daughters. His first child, Hannah, was born in 1980, and his most recent, Lars, in 2017.
How many times has Mel Gibson been married?
Mel Gibson has only been married once, to Robyn Moore Gibson, whom he met in the late 1970s when he was working on the set of Mad Max and she was working as a dental nurse.
Mel and Robyn married in 1980 and welcomed daughter Hannah the same year. They had six more children together, all sons, over the course of their marriage. The pair separated in 2006 and divorced in 2011.

Who are the mothers of Mel Gibson’s kids?
Mel Gibson has children with three women: his ex-wife Robyn Moore Gibson, his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva and his current girlfriend Rosalind Ross.
Robyn Moore Gibson
Robyn and Mel were together for nearly three decades – and married for longer – during which they had seven children: Hannah, Christian, Edward, William, Louie, Milo and Thomas.
Robyn, a native-born Australian, was working as a dental nurse when she met Mel in the late ‘70s. There aren’t many details on what she’s up to today, but she received $425 million in their 2011 divorce settlement, according to People. She’s also entitled to half of his film residuals for the rest of his life. So it’s no surprise that outlet Nicki Swift reported she’s purchased three homes in Malibu, California, including a clifftop compound in the Point Dume peninsula.
Oksana Grigorieva
Gibson began a relationship with Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva after separating from his ex-wife around 2007. The couple had one child together, daughter Lucia, in 2009, but broke up amidst a storm of controversy, legal battles and media attention in 2010.
In June of that year, Grigorieva filed a restraining order against Gibson – citing abuse – and in July six audiotapes were released which featured Gibson screaming profanities and racial slurs at Grigorieva. Although Gibson denied the abuse allegations, he did admit to slapping her once, and was charged with a misdemeanor count of sexual assault; receiving three years of probation, counseling and community service.
Nowadays, it appears as if Grigorieva has maintained a fairly active, if sporadic, presence in the music industry, and continues to live in California. She has over half a million followers on Instagram.
Rosalind Ross
Rosalind Ross is Mel Gibson’s current partner. The two met when she was hired as a scriptwriter for Gibson’s production company in 2014 and have been in a relationship since then. They have one child together, Lars, born in 2017.
Ross is an accomplished equestrian and scriptwriter, and has worked on projects including the TV drama Matador, the 2022 movie Father Stu and upcoming movies Black Sam and Barbarian.
She and Gibson have an age gap of more than 30 years, but it doesn’t appear to bother them. Gibson told The Mirror in 2016, “...it’s just a number. She is an adult, and we dig each other.” Ross is ten years younger than Gibson's oldest child.

Who are Mel Gibson’s children?
Mel Gibson’s nine children span multiple generations, with the oldest being born in 1980 and the youngest in 2017.
Hannah Mae Brobst
Hannah is Mel’s eldest. She was born on Nov. 24, 1980, in Australia; the first of her parents’ seven children together.
According to People, she worked as a production assistant on her dad’s movie The Patriot and as a makeup artist on his movie What Women Want in 2000, when she would’ve been 19 to 20 years old. In 2006, she married Kenny Wayne Shepherd, a successful blues guitarist, and the couple have six children together.
Hannah has an active Instagram account which shares details of her life as a wife, mom, hoop dancer and hypnobirth educator.

Christian Gibson
Christian, along with his twin brother Edward, was born on June 2, 1982, while the family was still living in Australia.
Christian attended the University of Colorado and worked in TV and film as a cameraman. A few of the films he’s worked on have been with Mel, including Hacksaw Ridge (2016) and Daddy’s Home 2 (2017).
Like his older sister Hannah, he has a public Instagram which shows his work as a cameraman and life between L.A. and Mexico City.
Edward Gibson

Edward (Christian’s twin) was also born on June 2, 1982. He is reportedly not involved in Hollywood, and according to 90265 Magazine he majored in glass blowing at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
Despite not working in film like other members of his family, Edward is a successful business owner. His company, Natural Edge, makes furniture and art from reclaimed wood slabs. His work can be seen on Instagram.
William Gibson

William, who goes by Will, was born in 1985, and lives a fairly private life. His Instagram isn’t public-facing, but a picture of him outdoors in the water can be seen in a 2019 “National Siblings Day” post by his younger brother Milo.
Louie Gibson
Louie was born in 1988 in Australia. He attended Chapman University in Orange, California, majoring in film, and graduated in 2011. He followed in Mel’s footsteps to become a director, and has helmed the horror flicks Happy Hunting (2016) and Manifest West (2022).
Louie has been married to actress Annet Mahendru, who starred in his 2022 movie Manifest West, since 2016. They have at least one child together, per People.
Milo Gibson
Milo was born on Nov. 16, 1990, in Australia. After he graduated from high school in Malibu, he worked as a massage therapist and later as an electrician. But in 2017, he decided to change careers and pursue his passion for acting.
Some of Milo’s acting credits include Mel’s 2016 Academy Award-winning film Hacksaw Ridge, as well as 2022’s Manifest West, which his brother Louie directed. But he’s worked on non-family projects too, including Breaking & Exiting (2018), The Outpost (2019) and Under the Stadium Lights (2021).
Based on his Instagram, Milo married his wife Katrina and had a child with her in 2023.

Thomas is the youngest child of Mel and Robyn. He was born on April 14, 1999, in Los Angeles. Although he’s a grown adult now, he stays out of the limelight and not much is known about his life.
Lucia Gibson
Lucia was born in Los Angeles on Oct. 30, 2009, to Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva. She is their only child together.
Lucia is still a minor, so not much is known about her life; however, she can be seen dancing with her mom in Grigorieva’s 2022 music video for her single Lemonade. In the video’s description, Grigorieva affectionately refers to her as “Lucy.”

Lars was born on Jan. 22, 2017, in Los Angeles, to Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross. He’s the couple’s only child together, and Mel’s ninth and (so far) final child.
As he’s still so young, not much is known about Lars, but he can be seen in recent photographs with his parents rocking long blond hair.
Is Mel Gibson a grandparent?
Mel Gibson is a grandfather to multiple grandchildren. Although some of his children are more private than others, it’s known his daughter Hannah has six children, his son Louie has one and his son Milo has one – which means Mel has at least eight grandkids.
