"The Summit" is a cast of 16 people, some with no previous climbing experience, who will be exploring the New Zealand Alps together to win a cash prize.
CBS' newest competition series will go higher than any series before. The Summit, coming to the network later this month, will send 16 people into the New Zealand Alps to test their mountaineering and survival skills.
The one thing that unites all 16 competitors of The Summit is, according to CBS, they didn't know exactly what they were signing up for, and many have no previous climbing or camping experience. But they're each carrying an equal share of $1 million in their backpacks, and if no one makes it to the titular summit in time, they'll lose all the money.

The cast will be followed by someone referred to as the "Mountain's Keeper," but they're not there to help the inexperienced climbers. Instead, this person's role will surprise the cast with "brutal twists" that will force tough decisions about who to leave behind.
Below, meet the 16 people competing on The Summit this season. The show premieres Sunday, Sept. 29 on CBS and then moves to a Wednesday time slot for the rest of the season.
