Mauricio Katz & Pedro Peirano Ink Multi-Year Overall Deal With Sony Pictures Television
EXCLUSIVE: Writers-creators Mauricio Katz and Pedro Peirano are getting into business with Sony Pictures Television. The duo have signed an exclusive overall deal with the studio to create, develop, and produce scripted drama series for cable and streaming.
Katz & Peirano have written pilot scripts for Apple TV+, Starz, HBO, and FX; and have collaborated with filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, Benicio Del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón and Ari Aster. Following their work on HBO’s Perry Mason, they are developing Miriam with Blumhouse and Prime Video.

Katz started in the TV space, writing on FX’s The Bridge and Cary Fukunaga’s Maniac for Netflix, before creating the critically acclaimed crime drama series ZeroZeroZero for Prime Video. He is best known in the feature space for penning Miss Bala, Mexico’s Oscar entry for Best Foreign Language Film in 2011, which was remade in 2019 starring Gina Rodriguez and distributed by Sony Pictures.
Peirano’s career in international film began with Sebastián Silva-directed The Maid (2009), which earned a Golden Globe nomination. His screenplay for NO (2012), directed by Pablo Larraín, received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film. He also co-directed 2011’s Old Cats with Silva and won the Sundance Film Festival World Cinema Screenwriting Award for Young & Wild (2012).
