Martha Stewart, 83, makes this hydrating green juice recipe 'every single day'
The media queen says the Breville 3X Bluicer Pro Blender and Juicer 'really works extremely well' — and it's on sale for Labor Day.
Staying hydrated is important, but it's not always easy — especially for those of us who think plain old H2O is too darn boring. Sure, you could add one of those flavor packets (filled with questionable ingredients), or you could do what Martha Stewart does and start each morning with a refreshing green juice. In an Instagram video, the 83-year-old home and entertaining maven says she drinks the stuff "every single day," adding, "It really does keep my skin looking really good, it makes my hair nice and thick ... I've been doing it year after year after year." Well, given how stunning she looks these days, consider us intrigued!
Of course, buying green juice from a smoothie shop adds up, so making it at home is more economical. The appliance Stewart reaches for? The Breville 3X Bluicer Pro, which, as its fun-sounding name implies, is both a blender and juicer. It happens to be marked down as part of the Amazon Labor Day Sale, so go sip up some savings!
'Bluicer' might be a funny name, but this 2-in-1 dynamo means business when it comes to extracting every last drop of juice from your produce.
Why is it a good deal? 💰
We'll admit, even with a $70 discount, this appliance is still an investment. That said, Breville is considered by many food pros to be one of the top brands in the biz, and you are getting a blender and juicer in one. This is as low as we're seeing this model on sale for, and you know anything with the Martha Stewart seal of approval is going to be top-quality. Plus, just think of how much it'll save you on pricey juice bar purchases.
Why do I need this? 🤔
If you want to make "Green Juice a la Martha" — as Stewart calls it — "You have to have a really good juicer," she says. "I prefer this Breville, it really works extremely well. It's worth the investment."
With a 50-fluid-ounce capacity, the Breville 3X Bluicer Pro can mix enough juice and smoothies for the whole family. It has five one-touch programs: Smoothie, Green Smoothie, Pulse/Ice Crush, Frozen Cocktail and Auto Clean. We know who's hosting margarita night! There are also 10 speed settings to choose from, and the machine's powerful blades can pulverize anything from ice to chunky soups to achieve an ultra-smooth texture.
Some other cool features? Its Cold Spin Technology prevents your juice from warming up while it's processed, and the 3.5-inch-wide chute means you can keep many fruits and vegetables whole rather than chopping them up before feeding them through. Now there's a godsend for hectic mornings!
Martha Stewart's green juice recipe
To make Stewart's go-to morning beverage, you'll want to "make sure it's on 'Green Smoothie,'" she says. She starts with a bunch of celery with the leaves — "very nutritious" — then adds a few cucumbers, which she calls "essential." Next, some parsley ("you can use flat-leaf, curly, whatever"), and then, for a little sweetness, she says, "I love a little bit of fruit in my juice, pineapple is my favorite."
To round things out, she adds "maybe an inch or so of fresh ginger root," and for some extra brightness, "If you like citrus, and I do, a wedge of lemon [or] orange, with the peel included." She finishes the drink off with some mint ("I love mint"), and "last but not least, spinach" — a whole bunch of it. While she doesn't really include measurements, you can check out her Instagram demo above to get a sense of how much of each ingredient she uses. She pours herself a 6-ounce glass, saying it's "not too thick" and "has nothing in it that's gonna make you burp." Cheers to that!
What reviewers say 💬
Amazon customers praise this workhorse for its speed, power and the fact that it's a cinch to clean.
Pros 👍
"The blender is very powerful yet quiet," raved one happy buyer. "The frozen cocktail function is the bomb! I use that function to make perfect caramel coffee ice blended drinks ... I have also found that it is faster, pours better, easier to clean and so much quieter than [my] Vitamix. ... Finally, the auto clean function is so cool!"
"It's so easy to clean, making it a joy to use frequently," agreed another. "The short prep time is a dream for those busy mornings. And the five one-touch programs? Simply fantastic! These features made my kitchen experience so much better."
"Breville thought of everything with this machine," said a third. "From the juicer right into the blender, to the lid lift on the blender for pouring, to the ease of cleaning! ... It is big enough to make double delicious batches to last for a couple of days!"
Cons 👎
Of course, its large size isn't without downsides."The size of the full setup for juicing is quite large and cumbersome to store, but very nice," noted a shopper. "We've found this juice and blender to be perfect. Leaves the pulp pretty dry given the setting it's on. Fairly easy to clean. Performance power is great."
"[It] takes up a lot of space on the counter in my small apartment," shared a final fan, "but probably less space than buying a juicer and a blender. Most importantly, it extracts nearly every drop of juice from anything you feed it, and the pulp is collected fairly effortlessly."
Juice, frozen cocktails, soups, smoothies ... the possibilities are endless with this multitasker in your kitchen.
Another Martha-approved morning beverage maker? This sleek French press:
According to an article by The Kitchn, Stewart used the Bodum French press on an episode of her longtime daytime talk show, Martha, saying, "I love this French press. I have used this particular glass one for years — I think it really makes a nice cup of coffee." And if she approves, you know it's definitely "a good thing."
Made of ultra-heatproof borosilicate glass and stainless steel, this coffee maker is as attractive as it is simple to use. Just add your coffee to the carafe (you'll want it to be coarsely ground), pour in boiling water, stir, place the plunger on top and let sit for four minutes. That's all there is to it! Making coffee this way is much more eco-friendly than using plastic K-cups, and because many of the pieces are dishwasher-safe, it's a breeze to clean.
