Mark Consuelos Recalls His Major On-Air Fail Quoting “Today”'s Al Roker While Doing a Guest Gig on “GMA”
"They never had me back!" Consuelos revealed after his blunder on 'Good Morning America'
Mark Consuelos is remembering one major TV flub — and it was all because of Al Roker!
On the Feb. 4 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Consuelos and his co-host, wife Kelly Ripa, talked about the weather, which reminded the 53-year-old of a past mistake he made that cost him a job. He recalled taking on a meteorologist gig at GMA, but things quickly went downhill.
"I remember for a period of time, Good Morning America was doing celebrity weathermen, and I did it one morning, I don’t know if you remember that," he explained to Ripa. "They said, 'The only thing you don’t say is, 'Here’s what’s happening in your neck of the woods,' because that’s Al Roker’s [line] on NBC, the Today show. The competitor, that’s what he says."
"They put it in my head. Now it’s in my head, and that’s what I said," he revealed. "And they never had me back!"
Joking that her husband “had one job,” Ripa laughed at the blunder, while Consuelos admitted that he "knew it was a bad idea" from the start.

Ripa then shared her own funny memory involving Roker, which caused Consuelos a moment of panic he certainly won’t forget. At an event years ago, Ripa and Consuelos exchanged phone numbers with Roker and his wife, Deborah Roberts, intending to schedule a double date.
“Back in the early iPhone phases, entire text chains would pop up, or, if you left a voicemail, like cellphones were wild,” Ripa explained. “So Mark’s cellphone number and my cellphone number would get confused, like in contacts.”
“[Roker texted] 'Hey sweetie, when can we have dinner? Love, Al,'" Consuelos chimed in.
Ripa interrupted: "First of all, it did not say, 'Hey sweetie,' that’s you putting your own twist on it!"
“Something like that,” Consuelos said, adding: "She gets back into bed and I go, 'Who the blank is Al!?'”
“And I go, ‘Al Roker, our new best friend!'” Ripa said as the two reminisced on the “wild” and “very funny” misunderstanding.
They revealed that they “never had that couples’ date” and later poked fun at the story when discussing “romantic retreats” on another segment in the show.
“Another thing we can fantasize about, a romantic retreat!" Ripa teased Consuelos.
“Or not,” he playfully replied.
