Mark Consuelos once bombed his “GMA ”guest weatherman gig by quoting competitor Al Roker on air: 'They never had me back'

"You had one job," Kelly Ripa told her husband, who called taking the gig a "bad idea" in the first place.

As morning TV's horniest couple, Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa always turn up the heat at the start of the day; however, the former revealed on Tuesday's episode of Live that his performance as a guest weatherman on Good Morning America led to a cold shoulder of sorts.

Consuelos and Ripa kicked off Tuesday's edition of their talk show with a chat about the weather, which reminded Consuelos of his temporary, one-day-only gig as a guest meteorologist on GMA.

"I remember for a period of time, Good Morning America was doing celebrity weathermen, and I did it one morning, I don’t know if you remember that," Consuelos told his wife, before recounting how he totally bombed the job. "They said, 'The only thing you don’t say is, 'Here’s what’s happening in your neck of the woods,' because that’s Al Roker’s [line] on NBC, the Today show. The competitor, that’s what he says."

Consuelos said that the insistence on not saying the thing he definitely wasn't supposed to say made him say it in the end, because of course it did.

"They put it in my head. Now it’s in my head, and that’s what I said," Consuelos revealed. "And they never had me back!"

Ripa laughed as she lamented her husband's gaffe, reminding him that he "had one job," while Consuelos observed that he "knew it was a bad idea" from the start.

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for GMA for comment.

Ripa then segued into another comical memory involving Roker, after she exchanged phone numbers with the iconic weatherman in a move that led to a momentarily shocking incident for Consuelos.

Ripa said that, at the time, a carrier glitch led to Consuelos sometimes receiving texts intended for her phone, and that her husband received an alarming message from an unknown number.

“[It said] 'Hey sweetie, when can we have dinner? Love, Al,'" Consuelos said, before Ripa cut in to remind him, "First of all, it did not say, 'Hey sweetie,' that’s you putting your own twist on it!"

Still, before Ripa told her husband who it was, Consuelos continued: "She gets back into bed and I go, 'Who the blank is Al!?'"

Thankfully, the couple is still going strong — enough so that they even documented their return to the Las Vegas chapel where they got married in 1996, for a special edition of Live in February 2024.
