Iconic Male Action Stars Reimagined As Female

Female-led films are *big* bank at the box-office, however big-budget blockbusters continue to be dominated by male leads.

One company is trying to do their part to shine a light on this problem, and in turn "give our girls the heroes they deserve".

Goldiblox, a toy company whose aim is to "disrupt the pink aisle and inspire the future generation of female engineers," has released a new ad campaign which asks 'What If All The Action Heroes Were Girls?'

The ad puts two of their female figurines, Goldie Blox and Ruby Rails, in the lead of iconic action movies including Star Wars, Back to the Future, Rocky, The Matrix, Indiana Jones and James Bond''.

"The most iconic action heroes are almost always men," says Debbie Sterling, creator of GoldieBlox.

"Boys grow up with superheroes, and girls grow up with damsels in distress who are saved by those superheroes. Those stereotypes become how kids identify with their own gender."

"50% of the world’s population is female, but in Hollywood, the fact is this: Only 12% of protagonists in big-time, blockbuster films are female," the company adds on their blog.

"Our girls deserve action heroes with flowing hair and combat boots. Our girls deserve to see themselves onscreen as well as calling the shots behind the scenes. Our girls deserve more."
