Following in the footsteps of Cailtlyn Jenner and her I am Cait docuseries, model Andreja Pejic is planning release a documentary following her transition from a man to a woman.

The 23-year-old, who underwent gender reassignment surgery in January 2014, has been modelling since the age of 16 and has been instrumental in challenging the way the fashion industry looks at gender.

The Bosnian-born Aussie model, who walked on both the men's and women's runways before her transition, admits it was a tough decision to share this journey with the world, but feels it was worth the risk.

“I never imagined wanting to get this on camera,” she told Dazed & Confused magazine.

“But Eric [Miclette, the director] said, ‘All this stuff is happening, we should capture it.’ And, with a documentary, you can’t really script it out. What happens to you becomes the story. It was a lot, but I came out on top. It was a risk; I didn’t necessarily know that was going to happen.”

Andreja made history in April this year when she became the first transgender model to appear in American Vogue and has also since become the face of Make-up Forever.

"A lot of young people grow up confused and feeling like outsiders, different from their family and everyone around them. It’s a lonely life and I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t like to feel a little less lonely. That’s why I decided to do a documentary.” she added.

The documentary is due to be released early next year in time for the Sundance Film Festival.
